arrow's annual apple festival!
Each year since 2010, arrow has welcomed the fall season with our annual apple festival!
The 2014 apple festival will be on saturday, october 4 from 10 a.m. to noon at Arrow, located at 393 n.finley street in athens.
This festival is a free event that is open to the public. Enjoy music, crafts, and fun, with the option to purchase tickets for apple pie tasting, fresh cider, our raffle, and other merchandise, with all proceeds benefitting arrow's creative programs. We appreciate cash or check for ticket purchases at the event.
originally intended for families with young children, the festival now includes something for children of all ages- as our children grow, so does the festival!
each year a volunteer from arrow's community drives up to the north georgia mountains to pick up a load of apples from a low-spray orchard near ellijay. the apples are then sold to our community as a fundraiser for arrow, with all proceeds from sales going to our creative programs for children. we also bring back fresh cider and offer it the day of the festival. click here if you would like to order apples this year! we also hold an apple pie contest each year. members of the community bake pies which are then judged and available for tasting the day of the festival. if you are interested in entering a pie in the pie contest, please contact our volunteer pie coordinator, rachel bailey, at rachel.b.scribbles (at) gmail.com by september 30.
each year local artist susan hable and her daughter, bird, carve an apple-themed lino block for an apple printing acitivity...
we are also grateful to amanda kapousouz, aka tin cup prophette, for playing her fiddle tunes for the arrow families each year. amanda is also one of the co-founders of arrow and we love (and the children love) that she comes back each year!
arrow also holds a raffle at the festival as a fundraiser- many wonderful items from our community are donated in support of arrow's mission. the items on offer range from handmade treasures to books to gift certificates for services in our community.
